5th Water (aka Hot Pots trail)

There is usually a lot of work to do before stepping foot onto the 5th Water trail. The trail head, known as 3 Forks, is notoriously trashy. After picking up some trash, our packs are on are we are ready to get to some trail work.

Douglas Fir cone.

This fire was still hot. We likely crossed paths with the responsible party as they were heading out and as we were working our way up the trail. It's frustrating to find this sorta thing when a river runs less than 40' from the fire ring. We use plastic garbage bags to haul water from the river to the fire, then punch a small hole in the bag to use it as an extinguisher. As usual, there is foil and other misc. trash in the ring and the customary lavatory area.

Some of the hot pots. Trash was abundant which is typical and unfortunate.

One of many large Great Basin Gopher snakes we would see around the pots.

We got creative with the pole saw by removing the saw head then using it as a carrier to haul out the large amount of trash.
